    OZL question

I've been having a discussion with another member on the difference between the Zähringer Lion Knight's Cross !st and 2nd Class. I've always been under the impression that the only difference was the size, the 2nd Class being 38 mm. and the 1st Class somewhat larger, both being worn on a bar. He seems to think the 1st Class might be a neck order. Can someone clarify, please?

Knight 1st was golden, knight 2nd was silver. Neck cross is already the Commander grade.

    Best regards

Daniel.. Regarding the base material. You are saying that the base is silver in the 2nd cl. and gold in the 1s cl. So a 1st cl. is always pure gold? And not just "Vergoldet"? And what about the 2nc cl.? Is it always just pure silver?

I´m not so deep in Baden details.

Prussia changed from Gold to gilded silver in 1916, Saxony even before WW1.
I assume Baden did it also like that.
A knight 2nd class was silver with a gold/gilded medaillons.
A knight 1st (also Commanders and grand crosses) was completely gold/gilded

            Best regards

ok, It's nice to know that you can actually separate the 1st cl. from the second class. It would be embaressing to find out that you have paid the price of a 1st cl. for a 2nd cl...
