    Red Eagle mini?

    Hi Guys,

I don't normally dabble in Imperial but saw this for sale and would love some opinions on it. Is this a Red Eagle? The enamelled arms have me a bit baffled. And why its in a Spinks case I have no idea!

    Thanks in advance,
    Patrick

Sorry the pics are so small. The resolution meant I had to shrink them in order to be able to post.

      Patrick,

thats indeed a Red Eagle. To be specific, its a Red-Eagle 3rd class. At least! Its possible, that it represents a Second Class, but that depends on the size. Do you have measurements? Maybe even a closeup of the Medaillon?

      all the best,
      Gerd

        Hi Gerd,

Thanks for your prompt help! I have emailed the seller asking for dimensions and closeups. Have these things been widely reproduced? It looks pretty decent from the crappy photos but comes in a Spinks of London case who are the leading British Medal suppliers?

          Hi Patrick,

no, these Minis are not that widely reproduced like Third Reich Awards, but you never know. I haven´t seen only a few copies of Red-Eagle minis yet, but they exist. But they are often very crappy and still easy to spot.
I have no idea about the case. Maybe some of the other members can help you with that. I doubt, that it belongs in that case. But if possible, lets see some closeups of the medaillon and bigger pictures.

          all the best,
          Gerd

            Thanks Gerd,

I know you are big on minis! What do you think would be a fair price to pay for such an item if genuine?

            Best, Patrick

              I wish

I would say, 150 to 180 Euro, if its a 16mm mini and 200 to 220 for a Second Class 18-20mm would be a fair price. Weitze had a Third Class for around 250 Euro a while ago.

              All the best,
              Gerd

It might be a foreign made piece.

Maybe thats why the Spink case. The golden arms are a bit too big for a Prussian manufacture so I can easily imagine that this is an example ordered by a foreign recipient in his home country. A closeup of the medaillon would make it sure if real or not.

                  Best regards

                  Daniel

                    Thanks Daniel,

That would make sense. I have asked for a close up of the medallion so will see what the seller sends me. If the price is low then I will probably bid on it .

Yes, i agree, that is a good explanation. The thick arms and the thick Eye made me a bit suspicios too. A foreign production would make sense.
