    Heiligen Michael maker question

I was wondering if anyone can poinpoint the maker of this example. First I'll show three chops--two of them are silver content marks. The third, which is located on the underside of the hinge, is the one I wonder about.

Here's the "S" on the hinge.

            Hi Eric,

            Beautiful looking piece!

I can't help with the maker though. I can't think of any of the major Bavarian jewellers that used an "S" mark. It may be some sort of batch mark or assemblers cose, like the various markings found on the underside of "S-W" EK1s.

The hinge and catch don't help - I've seen similar construction used for awards by other kingdoms/dutchies (Prussia, Meck-Schwerin, Lipp-Detmold), etc, even other countries (eg Imperial Bulgarian). Are there any marks between the cross arms, on the edge?

            Regards

              Thanks, Mike!

I pretty much am assuming the same thing. Or it could be yet another silver mark. Nope, no further marks on the edges of the cross or central disc.

              Never hurts to ask!

I would guess the "S" is probably for "Silber", since the only maker I know of that used an "S" stamp was Scharffenberg of Dresden. Official Bavarian awards were mostly made by Gebruder Hemmerle, Jakob Leser, and Weiss & Co. (but I don't know if the latter ever made this order).
