    Hi Alex,

I think both crosses are by maker "R" -- neither is a Godet or has anything to do with Godet, except that Godet also used the same core as "R". This is not a Godet frame. It doesn't bother me if the frames are different (I have not checked them) -- "R" used different frames at different times of the war. Also "R" often marked the small ring with ancillary marks -- including the "3" on one of yours.

Now the bigger question is... who is maker "R"? Rosenthal?

I hope this illustration can help you.

      Ciao streptile .
I think you may be right.
But I think the mark "R" is Alfred Roesner.

        Hi Alex,

I know that most people, and most lists, consider "R" to be Rosner. However, most of these lists were compiled by well-meaning collectors fumbling around for possibilities, and more often than not they assigned marks to makers simply because it seemed "likely" based on the shared first letter. Thus "R" was assumed to be Rosner.

However, if you consider that Rosner was located in Dresden, and that Dresden was in Saxony, one might profitably look for alternatives. It's true that it's possible -- many non-Prussians were awarded the EK, and certainly some non-Prussian jewelers made them. But "R" crosses seem to be abundant and early, and for most crosses of this type we look for a Berlin maker. The only one that I know of that might fit is Rosenthal, Berlin.

The thing is we have proof Rosenthal did deliever EKs, and we don't have proof Roesner did.

Not saying it cannot be Roesner, but what is more likely, mhh?

Ciao saschaw ,Ciao strepitle, your conclusions and assumptions are very important to me.
I always thought that the mark "R" belonged to "Roesner" and I'm not alone.
Thank you for your time and expertise, you have been a great help.
            Ciao and you soon Alex.
