    What the hell.....

    I just bought an EK doc, awarded 27 Sep 1919 to a Jäger in the 2. Komp. Hann. Reichsw. Jäger Btl. 10

    Was this a late WW1 award? Or were they fighting somewhere in the east after WW1? It is Reichswehr stamped not some Freikorps who gave themselves more power than they really had.

    All the best

    Hi Chris,

    the retroactive awards of the EK for WW1 finished in 1924 I think. So Your 1919 one is even an early retro-award.

    Best regards

      I supose it just seems strange because all the retroactive awards I have are all to ex soldiers, I have a few to guys serving on the eastern borders, but this is the first that I have a an active Reichswehr soldier in a unit no longer in action.

      Does anyone knowif they were "doing anything" in 1919 ?

      By the way..... this is WW1 EK doc number 302... I am aiming for the biggest collection in the world... problem being... I dont know any other collections I can compare it to

      Please, if anyone else collects WW1 EK docs, drop me a line !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

              EK II Docs

              Chris;

              Are you interested in copies of Docs, or only in originals? I.e., are you an information collector, or an object collector? I have my father's awarded in 1921. He was a Flammen=Pionier for 2 1/2 years, before that was a volunteer Pionier at Gallipoli, but didn't get anything except a black wound badge for 4 wounds. And not a single one of his battles was recorded in his Militaer=Pass; I have ca. 30-40 and have never seen that. As an information collector, I value a nice copy of a Pass almost as much as the original.

              My father's company command was corrupt. The infantry lieutenant stole the men's welfare fund, and was a coward and never went into battle. (They were one company for the entire 5th Army., they deployed by Trupp and Zug.) And the Feldwebel had to have sex with a Pionier before he could get his earned leave. So the Oberleutnant and the Feldwebel ignored each other's sins.

              My father hated this, and one night he and some other Pioniere were able to shoot the drunken company CO 31 times on the manuver ground at Stenay-sur-Meuse. (He told me, "And, remember, son, I was the second best shot in the company.") He also got to shoot a Sergeant in the butt during an exercise and kick another in the face. Plus his father was a staff officer and he had gone to college. So no medals, and after 3 1/2 years was still a Pionier, although he led a Flammen=Trupp and should have been a Gerfreiter or Unteroffizier for that.

              So he got his EK in 1921. He also had fought in the Freikorps and was in the Schwartze Reichswehr, so that must have helped.

              If you want a copy, I'll be happy to scan it, and you have the background. Do you want a de-lousing certificate?
