1914 EK 2nd Class Document Question

Hello,
I have a 1914 2nd class EK document dated September 4, 1917. I can not make out the man's name, but the unit he beloned to is the 9 Kings Leib Grenadier Regt Koening Freidrich Wilhelm III number 8.

Cany anyone tell me where a there is a good place to start looking up information on this unit?

I'd start with a regimental history. One probably exists for this unit, just may take some time to find one. I suggest trying here:

Hello Jody.
In addition to Daniel's post you may be interested in the following basic unit information : Leib-Grenadier-Regiment Koenig Friedrich Wilhelm III. (1.Brandenburgisches) Nr. 8 was part of the 5.Division/III.Armee Korps and stationed in Frankfurt/Oder pre WW I/peacetime . Together with the Inf.Rgt. 48 it formed the 9.Inf.Brig.
The Nov. 1918 "The German Forces in the Field"compiled by the British General Staff, War Office still lists it as being part of 5.Division but now in 10.Inf.Brig. together with two other Brandenburg regiments.

The 5th Division had a very interesting year, 1917: they went from the Swiss border to the Champagne, was sent to Russia in July 1917, but then sent from there to the Italian front in October. They were back in the Champagne again by January 1918!

Depending on the time delay in processing this award, it was either for the Champagne in mid 1917 or for the very brief service on the Russian front--then quiet due to Armistice (so that seems unlikely).
