    Imperial IOD89

This is a Damascus bladed IOD89 wih a raised inscription 'to the departure of Hauptmann von Stockhausen from the Officer Corps of the 13th Infantry Division von Herwarth 1880-1897'
This Division was from Westphalia and the 'von Herwarth' designation relates to a famous Field Marshall who fought in many of the ealier Prussian campaigns.
If anyone has any knowledge of the recipient, von Stockhausen, I would be most grateful to learn. (apologies for the photo quality!).

      Stockhausen

Not the 13th Infantery Divison but Infanterie-Regiment Herwarth von Bittenfeld (1. Westfälisches) Nr. 13.

Ferdinand Maria Wilhelm von Stockhausen; born 5 May 1861 at Erfurt. Entered IR 13 on 1 April 1880 and served continuously in it, including appointments as both a battalion and the regimental adjutant and eventually company commander. On 1 April 1897 he was transfered to the newly formed Infaterie-Regiment Nr. 158 followed by the assignment as divisional adjutant to the 21. Division. A Major since 18 June 1903, he became a battalion commander in Füsilier-Regiment Nr. 80 on 22 April 1905. Promoted to Oberstleutnant on 20 April 1910 and to Oberst on 22 March 1913, he became commander of Oldenburgisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 91 on the same date. He briefly commanded 40. Infanterie-Brigade from 16 September to 14 November 1914 followed by command of the 91. Reserve-Infanterie-Brigade. A Generalmajor since 18 August 1915, he was killed in action on 14 December 1915.

Glenn...Many thanks for such precise information. It makes the sword so much more valuable to me knowing the individual owner!
