Saxe Ernestine House order

My friend asked me to post this order here, together with a few questions.

His grandfather recieved this award. He was a Swedish citizen and owned a brewery in Sweden.

It seems that the documentation for this award are now gone and the relatives knows little or nothing, about the reason for him being awarded this order.

What class or "stufe" is this specific piece?

Would it be correct to assume, that he was awarded this order, for reasons involving his work as a brewer? (business contacts etc.)

Is it possible from these pics, to determine the the aprox. year of production and use that as a lead to an aprox. award date?

For insurance...what is the value of this piece?

What makes this a knight's cross 2nd class?

Seems to be gilt, isn't it? So it's a knight's cross 1st class at least, depending on dimensions. How large is it?

From the pictures, it doesn't appear to be genuine gold. I'm thinking that it is a Knight's First Class in silver-gilt. The suspension does not appear to be what is found on a Grand Cross or Commander Cross of the Order.

A Knight's First Class in genuine gold is worth about €1200. A Knight's First Class in silver-gilt is worth about €500.

How unfair, he got an important Order for brewing Beer but i do not get one for drinking it.

If it's Silver or Bronze Gilt would say the award date is at least after 1915 as they stopped using Gold early in WW1. Any Jeweller can tell but it looks to be Gilt judging by pics. Look for stamps.
