    Help Identifying EK's

    Hello all,

Some background: I pretty much collect '39 EK's, but, like all lovers of EK's, I've picked up a few '14 items. Well, I must have lucked out because looking at them all tonight, I found they are ALL maker marked, and ALL diffrent! But, there are three I can't identify. So, here goes.... First up is a heavily vaulted screwback. This 'ol girl has seen some action.

IN mark... This looks like an I and an N or W. Poorly stamped. Any ideas at all. Sorry about the pic, best I could get.

                          Hello again, Jim

I would like to comment on your EK1. If it is indeed a swan punch mark (the first I have ever seen on an EK1) it is not a maker mark, but an additional mark signifying silver content. I think these marks are seldom found on EKs, so your example could be considered fairly rare.

P.S. The swan mark is French-based, according to Andreas Ising. Yet found on German awards.

                            Totally random question...

What sort of a lighting set up did you use in these photographs?

                            Great "mood" on those photos.

                              Eric,

Would this then make this EK a little more valuable than the usual screwback?? I've already received several offers to buy it. I actually feel pretty lucky with these '14 pieces, because I simply bought them when the prices were right. Then like I said, I found they are all by different makers. I also have a KAG and 800 CD. I think my favorite is the one above I call the square C. The detail is just great.

If anyone knows anything more about the "swan mark" on the screwback, could they let me know?? You can also see it in the pic with the plate and nut attached. (9 O'clock)

                              Hi Chris,

I'm still playing with the digital and learning. I'm trying to photograph all my medals for quick reference. I'm also a modeler, and have a workbench downstairs. I have a typical swing arm light of 60watts on each end of the bench. I place the medal between the lights on a backdrop of either blue or black velvet ensuring the light is not directed right at the medal. I place the camera right between and just below the lights and take the shot. (No flash) I'm still playing with the black/white settings. Nice thing about a digital is if I don't like what I see, just shoot it over. I'm also finding that on the macro setting, I get a little better pic if I DON'T get too close. Then I just edit the photo.

Thanks to all for the help.
