    M1910 field cap

    Hello all,

I got this one in a Veteran bring-back lot of WW2 German items.

Am I identifying this correctly as a PRUSSIAN "GARDE" INFANTRY EM/NCO'S field cap? Zero markings that I can tell and it certainly appears to have been through a World War with all of the repairs and soiling.

    Comments welcome.

    Thank you.

          William,

There is no way to tell a red piped Garde infantry cap from a regular line infantry regiment cap without any markings. They were virtually the same. The cockades on your cap appear to be WWII types or possibly reproductions.

Since the holes are already there, you would probably be best off using the WWI split brad backed cockades as replacements. I suppose the sew-on enlisted cockades would cover up the holes from the outside, but you would still see the holes on the inside, so the prong backed ones make more sense.

            Chip,

Yes, I had them laying around and threw them on there. The cap did not come with any on there. It couldn't hurt and the holes were there.

I am not planning on keeping the cap for my own collection and would potentially trade it. What would a rough value on something like this be in the present condition? Does $200 sound about right?

The lower split brad cockade would be murder on the forhead wouldn't it

Its a regular em mutz I'd remove those cockades they don't help, the correct wire jobs initially didn't punch through the head band on a junior nco mutz if you see them like that they have been replaced plus you can see the remains of the correct red thread for an em cockade also all mutz when issued had small felt patches between the two cockies and the cap black for Prussia and the State colour for the lower one.
