    Sea battalion father/son sword

I have had a damascus blue/gilt sea battalion sword in my collection a number of years and I'm ashamed to say I still haven't researched the original owner(s)...It's a father and son piece - Alexander Heye, a leutant in the Sea Battalion from 1882-1887 and his son Karl Hans a midshipman in 1912. From what little research I have conducted I have found an Alexander Heye who wrote a number of books on the Sea Battalion and other armed units in the late 1800s (is this the same man ?) and one Karl Hans Heye as listed below -

    Kapitän zur See Karlhans Heye
    Born:
    12 Mar 1891 in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
    Promotion Date: 01 Oct 1941.
    Militärische Referent, Inspektion der Marine-Artilleriezeugämter - 00 Oct 1935-00 Nov 1941
    Chef des Stabes, Inspektion der Marine-Artilleriezeugämter - 00 Nov 1941-00 Jul 1943
Kommandant im Abschnitt Brunsbüttel - 00 Jul 1943-00 Apr 1945
    Kommandeur, 14. Marine-Flak-Regiment - 00 Jul 1943-00 Apr 1945
    Festungskommandant Brunsbüttel - 00 Apr 1945-00 May 1945
    Entlassen - 26 Feb 1946

Can anyone shed any more light on this for me ?

Trying to post pics of the sword but they are saved as 'png' so having a few issues !

    Kind Regards

That is a beautifull sword! It is possible to research the careers of both father and son. You would need to use the ranklists fro the period and it would take sometime. You have the son's WWII career information.

I did a look through in the ranklists and the father Alexander Heye was a GeneralMajor in WWI. He was born April 21, 1860 and died December 29, 1915, non-combat.

You have the son's WWII information. He died September 30, 1980. He graduated from the Marine Academy in 1910 and served on the SMS Westfalen. He was also awarded the EK2.
