Help with info on 1910 dated Luger holster

    Hi,

I recently received this Luger holster, dated 1910!

Can anyone confirm if this is military or police? I haven't been able to find info on this holster after many searches.

All parts including pull strap are complete, no signs of repair

Left, ink FAR 63 1910, tough to see in the pics but also stamped with TB12 over 1910 on the right:

Maker stamped F.W. KINKEL over MAINZ

Would also appreciate any thoughts on value, I'm trying to figure out exactly what I have.

    Thanks!

It is a standard military P.08 holster marked to the 53rd Field Artillery Rgt. Im not sure about the TB marking.....but maybe it is a subordinate unit within the 53rd FA Rgt.

The 1910 is not a common date to find 08 holsters from so that is is plus. Condition is not bad....maybe average or a little better for one from this period.

As for value, I'd say about $300 plus or minus $50.....some big dealers will price one like this at $400 or so but will tend to keep it for a long time....I think that at $250-300 you should be able to sell it.

      Hi phild,

Thanks, that puts me in the right direction! I agree, for 102 years old it's not too bad.

Kinkel made all sorts of leather goods for the imperial army, including holsters for the Lange Pistole '08, the C96 as well as a myriad of other goods. The earliest record I had up until now was a holster made in 1911.

          Thanks Chip,

As mentioned, I searched everywhere to find another with no luck.

I got the holster in trade knowing it was probably a rare one.

Does anyone know of another surviving example, or suggest an expert on these very early holsters?

          Thanks!

I have a few 1910s and they are much more scarce than 1911s. The TB indicates Train Battalion which would have been assigned to a Field Artillery Regiment.

              Thanks GWA.

That makes sense. Glad to have all the info on this piece of gear that does not fall into my normal interests.
