    MVK/MVO Ribbon Bars

OK, educate me. Either I've forgotten or just never knew so your shared information is appreciated.

Regarding Bavarian ribbon bars that have MVK/MVO ribbons with sword and/or sword w/crown attachments..........are these indicative of a MVK or MVO award......or both? If these only represent MVK awards, was there a way to differentiate MVO awards on ribbon bars?

    Thank you.

These represent both MVK and MVO and if there are no other indicative ribbons, you can't really differentiate those two. But I'm not a real expert and maybe more educated guys know some secret for sorting out these.

The ribbons are the same for MVO and MVK.

Sometimes looking at the combination of other ribbons on a ribbon bar can in some way help differentiate between the two (officer & nco).

Usually there will be silver swords device for MVO4 and bronze swords device for MVK but then sometimes silver swords are used for the higher grade of MVK. It can be very hard to tell.

      Kind regards

As the MVK was awarded in bronze, silver and gold, you'll find it's devices in bronze, silver and gold, while those for MVOs should only exist in silver and gold, as the MVOs did.

However, golden swords were so generic they were also used for actual bronze MVKs, so it's not always easy to deduce the grades.

The only save way is from the combination, if possible.

Thanks guys. I was starting to wonder if it would boil down to the other ribbons on the bar (officer awards vs NCO).

          Thanks again for the input.

Both could have been either for officers or for EMs/NCOs in this case.

Is the device of the 2nd bar copper/bronze? Then it's probably for a MVK 3rd class with crown, making it a NCO's bar. Otherwise... no chance to know for sure.

Yes, the second swords/crown device is definitely bronze colored.
