With the lack of commemorative medals and the Barvarian Cross placed ahead of the EK 2 was this bar made during WW 1 or is it a post war bar? The backing looks to be silk and the EK 2 is maker marked KAG. Thanks for your input Regards Chris

Pre-1920....
Why? The Bavarians and the Saxons were the only two states (Kingdoms) who did not subordinate their own awards to Prussia. Bavarian & Saxon soldiers would always where their own state's awards first.... excluding non-combat awards. The EK2 was revered amongst these men. Combat awards always preceded peace-time orders. Nice bar!!

Classic pair to a Private/Snr. Private/Lance Corp. Almost certainly 1919-1933 made. Most Privates didn't wear medal bars in the mud of Flanders-but ribbons instead.
Also note that there is no LS medal-although Bavaria issued them in the war. Thus, this guy entered the army @1916+...Last edited by McCulloh; 08-08-2004, 07:01 PM.
