    Large MG Gunner picture

    Guys
    A Gent in Germany was kind enough to send me this large 77 x 60 cm picture and frame awhile back. carefully packaged.

      Is the EK2 latter added or original to the photo? It appears to me from these pics to be hand painted in.

          Added after then. He was killed in Flanders in 1917.

                In the Volksbund list I found one soldier with the name of your guy. May be it's him:

                Franz Schmölz ruht auf der Kriegsgräberstätte in Menen (Belgien)

                Endgrablage: Block L Grab 1684

                Nachname: Schmölz
                Vorname: Franz
                Dienstgrad: Musketier
                Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 31.10.1917

                  Seeing the picture has a black boarder around the picture usually means a death or memorial photo. His family probably had the EKII added to studio picture after he had died because the man didn't have another picture taken before he was killed. Just my thoughts on this
