    New Medal bar found!

    Hi

Need help on this medal bar I just found
    today at flea market!

    Who would have worn this?

What are some of them for?

I know its missing the one medal!

I thought it was neat for the $140.00 I paid!

    Thanks

    PaulV.

That final award is the Austro-Hungarian Military Merit Cross 3rd Class with War Decoration, or as commonly referred to here, the ÖM3K. It is the Hapsburg equivalent of an EK2 for combatant arms officers, which is what your guy was in WW1.

The mounting precedence suggests this was made before 1938, since the ÖM3K is in last place as a foreign award and not ahead of the Hindenburg.

Which means your officer had his 25 years in BEFORE 1938. As a combatant arms officer, that means he was then most likely an Oberst. Army rather than navy from the army uniform colored backing.

Unfortunately the 1919-21 Silesian Eagle Freikorps award was not shown in Rank Lists-- if it was, that would probably have ID'd this guy. Without it to make "3," only the EK and the ÖM3K almost certainly isn't enough to put a name on this bar, unfortunately. I'll go look and see if I can find a lucky match.

The medal missing is the Wehrmacht 12 Years Long Service Medal.

I'm puzzled by the extra metal showing behind the Silesian Eagle's head. What's this stuff?---->

                      WW1 medal bar

                      Thanks!

The Silesian was just held by little piece
                      not for it!

So when I removed it it shows it had been

                      soldered at one time!

                      Thanks for help!

This is a nice group and a good buy for that price IMHO

                            Paul,

Are there any markings on the reverse of the Silesian Eagle? I can't quite make it out; is there a '21' on the back?
