    Cigarette Case

I picked this cigarette case up a number of years ago. Don't know anything about these type of cases. Photos are not great but should show detail of signatures. Top of the case is marked
    6.J.T.D. KMDO
    Dosso Del Fine
    1935M
    Weihnachten 1916

A previous owner had sent a picture to the Director of War Archives and recieved a reply with some of the signatures translated.

Any information on the case would be appreciated.

Case appears to be sterling silver based on the halmarks.

I looked at this case maybe 25 years ago (90% sure it was this one) and I was struck then as still now by the engraving work that went into it to replicate a facsimile of SO many different signatures for all of the the presenters.

IMO it is "real" and pretty unique in the amount of work that went into it, as well as the sheer number of officers associated with it.....and perhaps just the fact that it is original which is unusual these days.

          Hi Phild,
Thanks for your input. Purchased the case from the estate of a friend of mine about 10 years ago. The documentation that was included must of been researched by someone who owned before my friend purchased. Wish I new the significance of why the owner wanted all the signatures of his group. I can only assume that it was done in 1916.

I saw the case in TN around 1990 give or take 2 years. A friend of mine from GA owned it at the time and I think the paper was with it. Another friend (no I really don't have many more than the two) tried to trade a Radom even for it.....but no go. He could not believe that he could not get the case for a pistol.

I'm sure you know that the unit is the 6th Div from the Austrian Hungarian Empire. The Field Marshall cited in the doc and signed (engraved) near the top commanded that Div in 1916 and was KIA later...in 17 I think.....not many FMs KIA!

For me it is a great item and I think worth a couple of Radoms.
