    Hohenzollersche Denkmünze

I saw this Hohenzollern 1848/9 Medal for Combatants today.

I know these in unfinished bronze (OEK 1796/1) but I am not familiar with a bronze gilt version like the one we see here.

Is this a legitimate variant? Or just a normal one in superior condition? Has the gilt worn off all the other ones I've ever seen?

Thanks to anyone who can help me understand this.

These are usually never gilt, but - if it's old made - it could well be a private opitcal "upgrade". You'll find the same with most other bronze medals, e.g. with the 1870/71 KDM or the 1897 centenary medal.

I believe I have an 1871 KDM on a medal bar that has been gilded. Sort of a luxus model.
