Unknown german cross with chain, help required!

Just bought this one, can somebody identify it and what's the reason this was handed out?

It's a post WW1 unofficial veteran's award. There were crosses "treu dem regiment", "treu dem batallion" and "treu dem marine" - there should be ribbon with plate attached weith the name/number of batallion/regiment. As far as I know, they were issued to every member of certain unit upon application (and payment for cross). The chain doesn't belong there, it was probably used as pocket watch pendant.
