    Sedan Memorial to be destroyed

Interesting article in the Berlin Morgenpost:

I can only read a little of the article. It seems a shame to destroy the monument. German troops fought honorable in WWI, a war they did not ask for but got anyway.

In short the article notes the original classical construction of the monument during WW 1 and that the current condition of it would require 50,000 euros to restore. The city government does not want to restore it as it is a danger to those walking around or inside it and the cost of demolition is 13,000 euros. Historians of various nations including local Frenchmen state the monument should not be torn down. The Sedan area was the location of two French military disasters- once in 1870 and again in 1940.

This is despicable, nothing less than the blatant destruction of history.

                    Hello,

here is an update from the Preußische Allgemeine Zeitung from 26. May (sorry, just in German).

As we near the 100th Anniversary of the beginning of this bloody war - we should try to preserve history.

Maybe an indirect way of getting even with the WW2 destruction of the 1918 surrender monument that Germany destroyed after the fall of France in June 1940?
