Hello folks. Got this in a small lot of various insignia, etc...It measures appx. 7 1/2 inches wide and 12 1/2 inches long. It has three small brass rings and is completely un-marked. The entire design is printed and there's a row of zig-zag stitching along the outer edge of the pennant (for reinforcement, I'd presume). I don't know if this design is attributable to the Stahlhelm or some other veteran organization, or if it's a period piece at all or a fantasy design? Your comments are welcome. Thanks in advance!

There's a guy from New York State on eBay (uses the name Johann1, I think) who seems to have a regular supply of these and claims they came from a horde that his brother-in-law in Germany found.
He has 2 patterns. One like this and another with a very ugly and badly rendered Imperial eagle.
Stahlhelm Wimpels are usually made much better than this. Instead of the rings, it should have ribbing on the leading edge encasing a proper lanyard with clips for attachment to the car flagpole. The edges should also be finished with ribbing, not just basted as in the case of this Wimpel. It's possible that it's just a cheap souvenir sold at one of Stahlhelm rallies, which would explain the poor manufacturing.
UV the stitching on the edge. My guess it will light up like a Christmas tree.
I won't definitively say it's not real. But, I personally don't like it.Comment

Yes, the overall quality is not the typically high standard you'd expect, but it's also not "terrible"...a souvenir type item might explain it, but yes, at my first opportunity I'll black-light it and see what happens. It was very inexpensive, so no harm either way. Thanks again for taking the time to enlighten me.Comment
