    my first (possible) purchase

    Hi Fellas,
i'm seeking your opinions on a 4 place group that i am hoping to purchase.Consists of: EK2,Cross of Honour +swords,Hamburg Hanseatic Cross and Army 15 year long service cross.Grouping has a makers label on the reverse.Any thoughts/opinions?A common group or unusual?Buy or avoid like the plague?Sorry no pictures!
    All help gratefully appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    yorkie(still learning about Imperial!)

whats' the makers' label on the back; is it -hamburg or wilhelmshafen perhaps?
sounds like a naval n.c.o. to me.
Not all that uncommon; there have been two such bars on ebay recently. One exactly as you described went for $115.00-which by definition, is the "market price". A similar bar with only a 9 year LS medal went the next week for $96.00. There were @50,000 Hamburg crosses awarded according to Rick (although I suspect more-like@75,000 given the medals ubiquity in the 1920s ranklists). I thought Rick had said that Neal had found the medal records fro the cross in a flak tower-still sealed in a nazi eagle stamped crate like something out of "Raiders of the Lost Ark"...
    cheers,

Career army NCO or navy PO is possible. The Hamburg Hanseatic Cross should be in FRONT of the Hindenburg Cross, but that is a typical period mounting error in the early Third Reich when the regulations were frequently mis-interpreted.

Whether Hamburg's award roll survives, I don't know. Lübeck's was still in a Flakturm several years ago, lost in the jumble of stuff nobody has looked ta in 55 years.

        Hi Guys!
just got the bar this morning, awards in order left to right are:
EK2,Hindenburg cross,Hamburg cross and army 15 years. The label on the back is pinned through the ribbons and is circular,it says something along the lines of: WOLFG.RDB(COULD BE ROB).SCHWARZ DIREKT AM WEDDINGPLATZ N65.MULLERSTR 115 46763. No mention of any town/city.My only concern about the bar is the fact that the Hamburg cross is only held on by cotton, whilst the other awards are fastened to the ribbon rings,is this normal due to the positioning of the loop on the Hamburg cross?Plus given the age of the bar would the cotton have been replaced at some time?
        Your thoughts/opinions are appreciated,
        kind regards,
        yorkie

Sounds like a later repair but I'd love to see a pic.
By the way, we Yanks say "thread" instead of "cotton".

Dont' know about the firm-but I thought there was a Mullerstr. in Berlin. Ich bewundere mich, wo dieses "Weddingplatz" ist?
Sorry, Rick, I confused the Hamburg/Lubeck story.
p.s. I got m,ore info from Turkey-we're on to something!
          Anon.
          Cheers,
          JeMc
