    Vonmark-

What you have, in addition to the EK2, is the Golden Merit Medal with Swords Clasp for War Merit from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha,Erinnerungskreuz des Marinekorps Flandern (with two bars) and the Kyffhauser Medal. The later two are unofficial veterans' medals from WWI. They were not worn after the introduction of the Hindenburg Cross in 1934.

I think this bar would be worth about $100.

    Best Regards,
    Brian

      Brian-
You are kidding right? The 2nd medal alone is worth more than 100.

        McCulloh-

        I wasn't kidding I just wasn't thinking

You're right about the Golden Merit Medal. The EK and vet medals combined would be worth at least $100.

I'd be surprised if it WAS a Gold and not a really, really crappy scan of a Silver Ernestine Medal. It looks like it has been PAINTED!

Can't read the date on the bar behind its swords.

The date is 1914 on the clasp and it is gold on the Golden Merit Medal with Swords Clasp for War Merit from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Can you tell me what that medal was awarded for?
            thanks,

That is a REALLY bad scan of a really rare medal then--

              It should be silver gilt.

My late friend Neal O'Connor got into the Coburg rolls, and in his Thuringian volume on WW1 aviation awards, stated that a grand total of 828 gold medals with clasps were awarded during the entire war. The number for 1914 would be a tiny fraction of that, no doubt.

This grade was given to senior NCOs. Since there is no long service award, the recipient here must have been either an officer candidate who for some reason never got the Knight's grade of the House Order for the entire rest of the war, or was a reservist.

This is simply the local state equivalent of an Iron Cross, and is rare because the STATE was so small and the numbers eligible (by rank) so limited.

                  I'd estimate @350-$500.
The silver at that price is vastly overpriced. I for one. am looking for this medal to complete my collection
