    Prussian sword question

    Can anyone tell me if this is a rare maker for these swords ?

      I don't think so. PDL was certainly one of the largest suppliers of swords in the Imperial era. I think that the fact that this is a contract example makes in much more scarce and (for me) intersting than a private purchase one.

          The crown stamp, the W and the 14 from 1914, the year it entered service. The smaller stamp someone else can chime in on. Are there more stamps on the different parts? I have a bayonet which almost every seperate part is stamped with the smaller one.

            I believe this is an issue piece, given to NCOs (mit Portepee), who were allowed to wear the officer's pattern sword. Of course, they could purchase their own, if they desired to.
