There's not a lot of references on these and plenty of copies. What makes this one original? I'm just trying to learn to spot a good one.

I don't know this decoration well, but I do know that German collectors use the word "original" to mean "award-type," so maybe Gen means "award-type." I guess we need him to clarify his statement.

That cross looks way to small to be a Braunschweig KVK1. It looks about the size of a Sax-Coburg-Gotha pinback.

Re the example at the start of the thread, yes, a nice original award example. There are plenty of other makers of these awards, more than likely most are private purchase and/or post-WW1 manufactured.

                      hi

please give me some more informations about
other makers, that are known as original ones.

I believe that only one producer makes these crosse
because its donations was in march 1918 and
there were only a few month to get the award.
it was no common award (you needed the
wmc 2 class). the demand on this crosses was small.
and brunswick has his own jeweler. and some of
my older collectors friends told me, that in past only
the crosses with the short fourquare pin were knows as
original awarded pieces. If you have some more
                      informations please let us know.

                      regards

                          I agree with Don.

However, I would say that the ones with the flat, square needle pin are commonly considered "award pieces". But, is that actually true?

Here are some other genuine crosses with different finishes, different style 'EA' and '1914'.
