Tom,
Congratulations on an excellent group, just the sort of thing I crave.
FAR 80 was part of 39. Infanterie-Division and served on the western front throughout the war.
When Leutnant Werner was awarded his EK 2 in July 1917, the division was serving in the Reims area just before transferring to Flanders and Artois at the middle of the month, where it remained until late February 1918. His Mecklenburg MVK 2 was awarded while the division was fighting in Flanders.
The division became part of the OHL reserve with 6. Armee in early March and was then involved in training in open warfare in the build-up for the Kaiserschlacht offensive, which was launched on 21st March.
Together with 3rd Guards and 20th Infantry Division, 39th Infantry Division formed XIV Reserve Corps of von Below's 17th Army, advancing behind 20th Infantry Division west of Cambrai. Here it was involved in fierce fighting and had to be withdrawn by the evening of the 23rd. Five days later, the division re-entered the line and slowly advanced to the south of Hebuterne.
In early April it was withdrawn to rest near Cambrai and was soon transferred to French Flanders, where Werner was serving when awarded his Schaumburg-Lippe cross. His Schaumburg-Lippe award document is certainly not common.
However, there is one award missing from the group.
If you bought the documents from Detlev's offering last Friday, I simply don't understand how I missed them. Did you really order them from Germany last Friday and receive them today?

Thanks for saving me a lot of time and effort, David
Yup, it was listed last Friday. #2131.After all my near misses lately I guess Wotan decided to be kind to me Actually, they arrived Wednesday and I picked them up yesterday. It takes longer to send a letter across town What's missing? The only thing I can think of would be a Flandern Kreuz, which I believe was a vanity piece.

Tom,
I got his Mecklenburg MVK 1st class and certificate, which only arrived here in Germany today. I picked it up about 20 minutes before I read the thread.
Normally, I don't buy single documents, but this time I made an exception. I have been after Mecklenburg docs for a while, but the good ones always seem to get snapped up by someone else. I honestly do not understand how I missed the rest of the group, or why Detlev split it up.
It's getting late here, so I'll do a scan and post it over the weekend.
All the best from Germany,
/David
