    Price?

Ok, I've just been offered a "Wilhelm Ernst War Cross of Saxe-Weimar". It comes with the original case, but, there is some minor chipping to the enamel. What would be a descent price for this award?

    Cheers,
    James

As long as the chipping is just minor, I would think it should be 1,500 to 1,800 US dollars.

I think the price I was first quoted, is more like $2900.00. I rather like the price you suggested Tim...got one for sale?

Unfortunately, no, I don't have one. As for the price, I was taking that from memory, but it seems to be a little out of date. I found a recent comparable price: an example without the case, with enamel damage on the reverse medallion sold for 1,400 euros hammer price at Andreas Thies auctions in April. That would make it a little over $2,000 after buyer's premium and conversion to dollars. So if you're one of those people who is willing to pay a hefty premium for a cased example, $2,900 might not sound so bad.

          Dear Tim,

For what this info is worth, on the German Nimmergut "Orden & Ehrenzeichen Katalog, 2001-2002" this cross is listed for Eur 1023.- / USD 1'250.-... But prices on this catalogue are almost always way under market avarage... May be on the latest catalogue is about 20/30% more expensive...

          Ciao,

          Claudio
