I don't care for the pin and catch. Not what I would expect on a
      period cross.

Looks like someone made that pin at home. See how it is soldered off center.
From the side ,'wrist pin' looks like freshly cut shinny brass. Replaced also. John

Imo the cross if fine. The catch is an obvious repair/replacement and the main pin MAY be as well, although it looks very similar to several unrepaired needle-pin examples I have in my collection. It all looks period (or at least pre-45) to me.

Mike hit it on the head. Someone has polished the back to a virtual mirror like shine though

I had my doubts about the pin being original.

As mentioned Nice cross but with replaced pin... when replaced who knows, would you go to the bother of fixing it if its not in use / recent memory etc? Could well be an old repair. Worthy of a collection i say

Here are 2 UNrepaired examples, one with the same core as the example at the top of the thread.

                    Nicely done Mike.

My doubts have been laid to rest.

Them's the babies Mike, I have a few of this core type all with different hardware which made me believe that these were possibly made during the 1914-18 period and well into the 30's but its only a theory.

I think this type of "walking stick" pin design was also used on a TR made cross but I don't remember the maker right now..
