    unknown badge

I'm posting this for a friend. Any idea what it is?
I am guessing maybe a freikorp piece.

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Dated 1918, probably not Freikorps.

A WAG based on the winged wheels and hammer/?wrench, either railroad or automotive (?engineer) association member (military or otherwise).

The A and K on either side of the date are probably significant for the real ID.

Quite definitely a railroad badge of some sort.

It looks like a Russian mechanic's badge to me. Those are rubber tires, as on their driver's badges.

Yes. The crossed wrench and hammer are very Soviet.

Could we get a look at the reverse?

I thought the hammer and wrench looked very Russian but the
wreath looks very German. So I appreciate any help you can
            give me.

            Thanks again.

Definitely Russian, early Soviet to be precise. As I suspected, the screwback plate (nut) is a giveaway, as is the “prong construction” which is used to secure the seperate parts.

Although I could not find anything on this exact badge, I do have something similar. I would suggest that you post your badge in the Communist bloc section.
