    My first CDV

    Hello,

Some time ago I have pick up a nice CDV photo. I was trying to learn something about CDVs but still this thema has a lot of questions for me.

Is here on the forum anyone interested in CDVs?

Personally I think that my photo was made short before 1870 or in 1880's (because there is no EK); but for me rather that second option because design of the cardboard is typically for 80's (IMO).
Also I'm pretty sure that this man was a noble because of his high awards and rank (but what exactly rank?) in comparision with his young age (he is ~20 yo). So maybe this man can be even identified?

I was looking for more infos about the photographer but I've found almost nothing interesting about him.

I would be thankful for any info (for man on the pic, CDVs itselfs and all other thoughts)

    And here it is:

I agree in every pount you made and yes, here are people interrested in DCVs.

Close ups of the awards - I see HEK1 and two breast stars - are required.

I love CDVs and have a few myself. They are often high quality and can have interesting elaborate graphics on the rear or even front. The majority of the ones you see will be pre WW1. I have some from WW1 showing full combat gear, but these aren't easy to find as the postcard started to take over in popularity and use around the start of the war with the CDV or cabinet photo as Ihave also heard them refered to disappearing.

        Thank you both for replies

here is a close-up of orders (IMO he got HHO1 as you said, and - maybe - Sachsen Hausorden der Rautenkrone bruststern, and Bayern Militar-Verdienstorden bruststern 2 kl.)

Not HOH1 - this is royal house orders neck badge with chain. HEK1 is the pricely house orders highest grade, that odd pin back cross.

I'm not sure about the breast stars, but the upper one might be Bavarian Hubertus order!
