Interesting piece. I'm no PLM expert, but you'd think there would be more enamel damage on an early piece? Also, shouldn't the lettering be painted on?

I like the quality of it but no idea if it's period.

Enamel damage has not much to do with age, wear and storage does. Is a Austrian made one supposed to have painted letters? No Austrian made enamelled orders i saw had painted letters.

                      Hello,

I think that it is not a mystery: this Pour le Mérite is attributed to Generalmajor Wenzel Fürst Liechtenstein and it will be auctioned at the Dorotheum in Vienna along with other very fine orders belonged to this important personality.

The other pieces are the Knight's Cross of the Austrian Military Maria Theresia Order; the Austrian "Kanonenkreuz" (named); the Bavarian Military Max-Joseph Order, the Russian St. George's Order 4th Class and the miniature bar.

I hope that the group won't split...

                      E.L.

E.L., Do you believe it to be of Austrian manufacture?

So why are we being asked our opinions on originality, when it is a known original?
