    wow!!

This, Sven, is a great medal. Do you own it? If so, do you want to sell it?
If it's real, t's the old 3rd class of the Austro-Hungarian Order of the Iron Crown. There should be a real iron or steel ring in the inside of the diadem (check with a magnet) and odds are it's made of real gold. Copies have a solid base.
The laurel branches are "small decorations" indicating "merit in the face of the enemy" and date this item to 1861-1918.
The last one of these I saw for sale was @5 years ago and it went for $850.!

Check it for hallmarks. If it has an asterix anywhere on it, it's made of bronze gilt and would have made mid-WW I or later. (The asterix was to indicate metal content and to show that the owner could turn it in after the final victory of the Central Powers for a badge made of gold.)

If it's bronze gilt, a more reasonable value for it in the US, where collectors of Austro-Hungarian stuff are pretty rare, would be in the five hundred dollar range and even then you might not find a buyer for it at a show...

        Wrong Ribbon?

        Sven,

is it your scanner or is that ribbon really red? Ir should be yellow with narrow blue stripes.

        Regards

Not to downplay this, because it is one of my favorite awards, but it isn't really all that rare in bronze gilt. If you check out the Austrian auction house, Dorotheum (they have a web site) they usually have two or three medals and decorations sales a year, and they generally have a couple of 3rd class badges of the Iron Crown order that sell for around 250 to 350 Euros, depending on makers marks, condition, etc.

In gold, it's very hard to come by. Recently saw a gold one for over $1,000.

The ribbon looks like the half-red, half-blue ribbon of the Commemorative Medal for the Liberation of Upper Hungary:
