    2nd Pomeranian Field Artillery Regiment

    Hello, friends.

I am doing some very preliminary research into an ancestor who was a Leutnant in the 2nd Pomeranian Field Artillery Regiment and fought in the 1870 war against France.

My main thing is Iron Crosses (I have his, below), but I am interested in any other equipment or clothing a man of this rank, in this regiment, would have had.

I would be very grateful to see what kind of helmet, tunic, or shoulderboards (for example) he wore. Any photos or illustrations would be very welcome! I will also put a thread in the Imperial uniforms forum.

Also, a friend has kindly informed me that there is a unit history:

    Hauptm. Ottmar Gallus: Geschichte des 1. Pommerschen Feldartillerie-Regiments Nr. 2, Berlin 1897, E. S. Mittler u. Sohn, 183 Seiten.
I wouldn't know how or where to look for this book, so any help on how to find it would also be great.

    Thank you in advance!

Nice cross, TrevorJudging from your family name, I would have guessed Silesia, but Pommern is good too

Weitze has much books. Do you know zvab.com? You would find almost any book there as they summarize the online content of all German book dealers.

Should you be interested in his career, I would be able to trace his it for you using the annual Ranglisten and a few other contemporary sources. I would require his name to begin.

Thanks to everyone for their nice replies

A member here contacted me by PM and has supplied me with some amazing information about my ancestor from the Ranglisten and possibly some other sources. So much more than I knew was possible to recover this late in the game. I am very grateful and I am still basically trying to figure out what it all means in my spare moments.

Sascha, I will take a look at Weitze and the other site. But let me know if you find anything, too -- I would rather buy the book from www.woeschler-orden.de
