    Wass yer name ?!!??

    I was under the impression thatz this guys name was heinrich Otto, but after looking at a bunch of other certificates I get the feeling Otto was his first name, and his family name is hidden in the scrawl below "Hütt...nanananan"

    Any ideas? no unit on the doc, just 6th Army.

        Hello Chris,

        He had three official first names but apparently was always called Otto (only his third name). The last name is definitely Hüttemann.

            Hello everyone.
            Just a general observation:
            whenever several first names appear on documents and one is underlined, it indicates the first name by which the person is generally called and which is considered his "Rufname'. This would then be considered his "official" first name.

              Jan is (is it "as usual" or "as always"?) correct. The "Hütte" and the "a" are really quite nicely written, but in my opinion the "m" and and the "n"s are well off the standard. Assuming that the nice "a" and the last bit behind may in fact be "ann", and comparing it to the "n"s in the "Oberleutnant" above for corroboration, one sees that the mess between the nice "e" and the nice "a" is the exact same "n" with an added second copy of the last loop, clearly a "m" written just like, and as badly, as the "n"s. My own family, educated people, each had their own very different wild and whacky version of Sütterlin.

              I haven't been going to Pedant Academy for nothing.

              These translations are far more fun than cross-word puzzles or cryptograms.
