There has been a lot of discussion in my mailbox about some depot markings on Pickelhaube that have been sold lately. These helmets have realized much money but there is steady criticism of the depot marks on the back bill. They seem to be too small for my liking and the inking is “perfect”, but most of the criticism is about the number 9. No one has said they have seen this kind of 9 before and so there is question about the authenticity. The black and white reference pictures come from the Lacarde Volume 1 pages 153 and 154. The color picture is one of the marks in question. Can I ask what folks think? Obviously the 9 on the helmet and the reference are different. Any comments appreciated and thanks in advance!
