What you have is a Knight's Cross, as mounted for wear on a neck ribbon, hence the whonkin' big suspension loop. A peculiar custom that was actually officially sanctioned during the 1920's. I've had 2-3 like this, including one that came with the St. Henry funeral sash....
A dangerous subject to get me started on!

A period Saxon issue? No. These are post-war copies, not made by the main Saxon jewelers who made them during the kingdom's existence. They are clearly of lower quality than the official pieces:




I have one almost identical to the one you show. Rick V. might know the actual provenance of these (1930s? 57er variety?)

Almost forgot.....

.... I suspect that your cross is a bronze-gilt "spangen-stuch", based upon the unusually bright gilding (quite common in bronze-gilt pieces of the 1920's & 1930's) and the very odd, pie-shaped suspension piece. It is most emphatically NOT an issued piece, as awarded by the Kingdom of Saxony...

Hi Alex,

in the 50ies, (so after WW2!) it was authorized to wear the Henry Knight like the Commander around the neck. I suppose in the best case it is a 50ies piece.
