Now here is what I think is a rare item; an aluminum 50 year commemorative cross honoring the Battles of Duppel and Alsen issued in 1914. The design and shape is similar to the original campaign crosses issued for service in those battles. The obverse has portraits of Kaiser Wilhelm I and II facing to the viewers left. The battle names Duppel and Alsen are on the top and bottom arms respectively with the dates 1864 on the left arm and 1914 on the right arm. The reverse depicts an old captured cannon in the center with the respective battle dates 18 April and 29 Juni on the top and bottom arms. On the left arm is the word “UP / EWIG” and on the right arm is the word “UN-GEDEEU”. Both are Danish I think possibly meaning “eternally undivided” Anyone know for sure?
