Can anyone help id this uniform/insignia?

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and just came into possession of two photos of great grandpa, Stephan Dold, b.1885, with no info or living relatives left. I i.d.'d the badge on the cap to be from Karpathenkorps and I have his EK2 and Military Merit Medal from Baden. Looks like there's an 's' on his collar, and a number on his shoulder board. Any info would be appreciated. Any idea where to get a Karpathenkorps badge or replica for display? Is there anyone who knows of any books on this unit? I've done much internet searching, but I'm coming up snake eyes! Thanks! Steve

If you can zoom in and crop on the insignia for enlarged views, that would help a lot-- can't tell from "life size."

But what you describe sounds like a SKIJÄGER battalion, and that IS the Karpathenkorps insignia too.
