My new Johanniter (or Maltese?) Brustkreuz

That's my todays addition. First I thought it is Johanniter piece, but IMO it has an austrian design so maybe it's Maltese one? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Diameters: 43 x 43 mm.
Silver threads.

If I understand your question correctly, Kaiser Wilhelm and Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria both often wore an embroidered Johanniter star on their field uniforms.

Thanks saschaw, well I have one Malteser Ritter portrait in my collection, but he have NO Brustkreuz (or Stoffkreuz?) visible on uniform (I think that if he has it on his left pocket, he wouldn't hide it behind his hand). So Maybe Malteser cavaliers just didn't wear such things... and this one is Johanniter piece then. Maybe.

First I was also thinking that this is Johanniter cross, but if you look closely you'll see that this is a Maltese cross. It was discussed here on WAF some long time ago.

Mhh, possibly... I'm not sure. I was always in the opinion both wore the crosses...

Personally I haven't seen a stoffkreuz on a Malteser portrait... but we don't see that portraits often... so everything is possible.
