From the pictures the back plate looks to be cast. There iseems to be some porousity showing. Is this piece one piece or three piece construction?

Personally I would look for a better example.

I agree with Tony. It doesn't look right.

I've seen 3 of these on offer recently, one of which on ebay. It always concerns me when something rare suddenly appears in any number? Is it just paranoia?

There's an old saying,"Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you." Another old saying: "Run away, run away!"

He lived out his years in Lawrence, Kansas, home of KU. I used to see him out in his front yard when I walked to class. I always wanted to go talk with him, but I never had the nerve.

I've got a biker friend in Lawrence who used to shoot with him. I was invited out to join them, but Bill up and died on me

I bow to Tony's superior knowledge re the 'casting' issue.......you'll have to take that further with him...but my advice...?

If your serious about looking for one of these, check these threads....they take some reading, but they are about as concise a summary on where we are at with 1870 EK1's as you'll find here......at least among those who are willing to contribute...

                        1870 EK1 makers..
                        1870 EK1 'I' Wagner...Opinions..?
                        1870 EK1 'I' Wagner Part 2 - It's arrived!!

Here, for your delight, is a current Manions offering....

Note the 'poorly struck J'...also a feature of the Rittmeister cross...

This is just one of the 4 or 5 variations/combinations of the Wagner m/mark?????

                        Rare, huh.....
