    Question about medals

Hi everyone!! I just started collecting Imperial uniforms after years of TR. My question is (for example): On a Prussian Officer's uniform can he have any of the other four kingdoms medals on his uniform? Or can he just have Prussian only? The reason I'm asking is I want to put a medal bar on the tunic and I want it to be correct. What about Austrian medals?
    Thanks.

Complicated question. The short answer is "Yes." The long answer is "depends." A Prussian officer could earn the awards of other states and wear them. However, the precedence of wear and style of bar would be Prussian. That means Prussian awards first, then other states, then foriegn awards, campaign etc..... Mounting style should be Prussian also. So- depending upon what you are looking it could get complicated.

It might help if we could see pics of the tunic that you're planning to put a medal bar on.

Very nice Pionier set-up you've got there. I love Dunkelblau stuff.

I don't necessarily see anything wrong with the way that you have it displayed as it is. I think the mounted "Zitronenorden" with the later addition of an EKII and a EKI works. I suppose you could do a 1897 Century Medal+Long Service decoration combo if you wanted to and could find one. Something like this:

The tunic isn't dated or unit-marked by any chance?

I'd expect an officer with a 25 year LS medal to have something else beside the Centennial medal.

Now that you mention it, yeah you're probably right. You'd probably need at least a Red Eagle Order and/or an Order of the Crown as well.

                  Is it a Leutnant?!

One thing I did not get: Were it like this, with the EKs and with the 1897 medal? Or is all of that added?

The tunic seems to be pre-war.

It is a Lt. when i got it all it had was the IC ribbon and the loops for a small ribbon or medal bar and one badge.I added the rest. That's why I.m asking for what kind of a Medal or ribbon bar would be correct. Thanks to everyone for there feedback.I will look for a prussian small medal or ribbon bar w/o a IC 2nd class.

Very nice uniform there, Dan! I also like the manequin with mustaches - it looks much more "prussian" than usual shaved manequins.

One more concern: can this tunic be worn by WW1 officer? Probably yes, for parade etc. purposes. And if you find bar with EK2, it's not a problem, just remove the ribbon from buttonhole.

Well, if it had the ribbon, I'd leave it there. It does not have by coincidence a (wearer's) name anywhere?

From what I understood, it is Garde-Pionier-Bataillon? Could not find any Leutnant in there (1914 rank list) who has two or more decorations... (and just one with one, who probably was an ex-NCO).

                        mhh...

Maybe he did wear the tunic later in the war, with war awards.

Thanks for the feedback and questions.I have a friend in the movie buz.that I get the heads from. They are made out of latex and are very flexible.which works out great for those small necks and headgear.I forgot to mention that the tunic did not have shoulder boards when I got it.it took me a couple of months to find pioneer boards;so I don't know what grade of an officer he was? There is no name in it.Anyone interested in heads let me know.
My thanks to everyone!!!I think I'm going to enjoy collecting Imperial as soon as I learn more.
