    Hi,
maybe you mean the battle of Maissin (august 1914)!? http://wiki-de.genealogy.net/IR_118
If it's possible, we like to see the page from the militair-pass.
    Best regards,
    Jens

I believe that METZ is correct.

Infanterie-Regiment Prinz Carl (4. Großherzoglich Hessisches) Nr.118 was part of the German 25th Division [Hessian Grand Ducal Division] from 1914 to 1915.

In August of 1914, the actions of this division were thus:
On 10-11 August 1914, the 25th Division entered the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg and on the 19th entered Belgian Luxemburg. The 25th Division then became part of the German 4th Army, commanded by the Duke of Württemberg, and fought in the Ardennes- specifically "fought at Maissin, northwest of Neufchateau on August 22."

Hi many thanks to both of you for the information, according to what I have found out thet would have been up against French troops, but would appriciate confirmation.
Also my soldiers name was Gefrieter Philipp Eich born 5/1/1888 in Worms,
any idea where i could find out if he was buried?

Thanks for that link to weltkriegsopfer.de Jens, that's a very useful resource.

A Gefreiter Philipp Eich is listed on that database, but his date of death is listed as 29 April 1918. Curious.

                This is his Volksbund entry:

Philipp Eich ruht auf der Kriegsgräberstätte in Maissin-National.

                Endgrablage: Grab 179

                Nachname:Eich
                Vorname:Philipp
                Dienstgrad:Unteroffizier
                Todes-/Vermisstendatum:22.08.1914

Looks like Gerdan found him. Does it list a promotion to Uffz. in the Militarpaß?

Just as a point of interest, Maissin looks like it was pretty rough on the whole of IR118. The 1926 Ehren-Rangliste lists 10 officers of the regiment as being killed or wounded on 22 August 1914, the highest ranking being a Major von Notz who was severely wounded on that date and died on 25 August 1914.
