There are no recipient's stories unfortunately, ...one of the '14s is an award type, the others and '70 are what were available for private purchase from different makers at the time when those were worn and awarded, ...just like the LDO pieces of the TR.

Here is a picture of Prince Leopold wearing a Godet's GC.

The photo is up on Andreas Thies' website in the "preview" section of his upcoming auction. It's not mine.... nor can it be

Thanks, but how many private purchase copies would have needed to be made? LDO copies would have been available to be sold to tens of thousands recipients. How many GC recipients were there?

I am sure companies who made GCs were aware that number of GC recipients is low, so they made some amount - no one knows how many, but what we do know - that there are period catalogs from different makers and some offering GCs for sale, pictures of which matching some GCs. So they made enough for a handful of recipients and a little more like always, some recipients wore their GCs for 15-20 years and probably can use more then one piece. And btw I don't see hundreds of those around, not even a dozen of one type on hands, so they didn't make all that many.

Here is a familiar picture, it's from an album that originally was sold on ebay and seller though those were RKs,

.... on this single bench there are five '39 GCs, with only one recipient, ...and he didn't wear it for long, what were they making those for? ....or only one of those five is original, and I am sure there are more '39s around.

if you given the order to make a grand cross ,,
as jeweller you start making dies and tools..
one's you have them ,,theoretical the number off GC you produce
            are up to your selves.

the planning was that the nazi's wood win all wars and rule the world .

so ,,moore GC wood be given in the future .

so there can be even 50 around ,,stored in party and organisations stocks ,,,,,,

            who knows ?

and what valuable picture,,,is there a name who he was ?

            .

All very interesting Alik! You're right, those are GKs in the picture.

I agree with what Kay said, too.

The other thing to keep in mind I think is that the community of people who collect, or want, these things now is much smaller than we can sometimes think. This isn't a community the size of (for example) Beatles records collectors, of Coca-Cola memorabilia collectors. It's a niche.

I think the same thing when I think about original 1870/1914 EK2 WHS. How can there be so many originals of such a rare piece? But the truth is that there are probably very few people who are chasing these things at any given time, and the 10 or so genuine period pieces I have seen photos of may well represent a sizable portion of those actually extant in collections.
              Best regards,

I don't know if there is a name, someone on the forum got the album and Dietrich M published this picture in his RK book page 27, so he must know who got the album, maybe that name can be found there.
