    what medal is this!!(i havent a clue!!!)

    what medal is this! i thought at first it was a war service medal but its not!
    anyone know what it is!! and why are there 2 different varations(??)
    the one on the right is silver the one on the left kinda brass/bronze i think!!
    and lastly what ribbion goes with it!!!
    any help would be great!

    Looks like the "Merit for the state" Prussian medal, but not able to identify it...

          it's the Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen, a civil award. Takes the same ribbon as the RAO,i.e. white with orange stripes. In 1912 the design was changed to this:

            any ideas as to arond what date mine was made at? what did you have to do to earn it? just genaral civil duties ect??

              If I'm reading my Nimmergut Katalog right they were made from 1895 to 1917. Don't understand the overlap with the newer design. The solid ring type is standard. The one with the separate ring may be private purchase...or not

                The silver medal on the right is the standard type of Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen, issued from 1848 to 1918. The one on the left must be a private purchase piece, as they were not issued in bronze until 1912 - that second design was used for the bronze medals only after 1912. I have seen some examples in silver with a suspension ring like the on the left, but they seem to have only appeared very late, probably during WW1. They are all worth about $50 or $60, unless they're one of the early (pre-1848) pieces, which had a different style of crown.

                    I think the "bronze" one on the left is a silver that's lost most of its original coloring. Looking at the left side of the wreath on the reverse it looks like there are still some remnants.

                      I have a cased one that came from Detlev with a War Aid ribbon on it. Thought that was interesting! Mike

                        mike thats weird cos me one that is all silver also came with a war aid ribbion on it!!!VerKuilen your right to there is a bit of silvering left on the medal!
