    1870s EK2s

    Hi

These fell into my lap today.

Iam new with this stuff so Iam going to guess.

The 1st cross is 1870 issue and the 2nd post 1900s?

    Cheers
    Dion

I would say pretty accurate guess. First one looks like an award period piece, second one is unusual, and not the Jubilee types normally seen. Perhaps one of the EK gurus can quantify that one.

2nd one looks to me as an EK2 WW1 period I would get. Iam learning.

              Hi Dion,

You have a very interesting cross there. I really don't know what to make of it.

To me the core (especially the reverse) looks a bit like a superior strike of a known Jubilee core, which is itself closely modeled on the Type A award-type core. But the frame appears, as you say, to be closer to a WWI-era piece.

Can you say if the core is magnetic? Also, the outer dimensions of the frame? Very good closeups of the inner corners of the frame beading would be nice, too

                Hi Trev,
Just waking up. Both crosses are magnetic. Ill zap pics up of the 2nd cross in a bit.

Both came directly out of private household. Was after the Luftwaffe Badges and noticed in the can it was all in were 2 eks. I thought they were 1914s until I looked closer later. Unless it was bought post war (WW2) by the guy I have no idea. Ill post more pics. I thought maybe both were of the LW mans Grandfather or relative.

It just hit me, I keep finding 1870 s in cookie and tea tins. Weird.

I swear - Third Reich comes in cigar boxes and Imperial in cookie tins.

                        Heres better pics Mr Burns.
