    Rescued from a garden shed

Here is my pickle haube, brought to me by a work mate which had resided in a garden shed since WW1,misshapen no cockades and the chin strap was hanging by one lug.The spike and helmet plate were painted silver, also the helmet plate had two holes drilled in it so it could held on by a piece of wire.I knew some one who was an armourer for the royal opera house and he pronounced it a wreck, but he made a new peak trim, studs and made a new helmet lug out of stainless steel and a new lug for the helmet plate.the silver paint came off with turps, revealing the original field grey on the spike,I gave the plate a wash of field grey.Might not be perfect, but at least it did not end up as a flower pot as the original owner was going to do!.John
