    Buttonhole loop question - MVK???

    Hi,

I've got this buttonhole loop (sorry, bad picture). You can see, that there are two loops with an EK-ribbon. All of these loops with the EK-ribbon I have, have ONE loop and this one has two with the lower loop a little bit smaller than the upper.
Is this some kind of makers/manufacture difference of could it denote an EKII and a Militaerverdienstkreuz?

Yup, that must be what TWO "Iron Cross" ribbons are for, if there was never any device stuck in the middle. Congratulations!

      Hi Rick,

thanks for the reply. So it isn't a loop variant with "double-EK-loop"? A loop for a MVK? Great, shouldn't there be a device? If I had the MVK, I would attach a device, so nobody can see, what the two ribbons mean, or?

I've checked all other loops I have. No double ribbons. So this is really for a Militaerverdienstkreuz? I wonder there is no attachment or device on it.

Nobody ever came up with any official device for any of the awards that went on plain "Iron Cross" ribbon... so can only GUESS what two "plain" ribbons are:

if no colonial medals, then we can safely assume WW1. Might also be a Militärehrenzeichen 1st Class (some were awarded WW1), but best guess is indeed the GMVK.

Some recipients mounted a CROWN on the ribbon, without swords, but that was never official and confusing since most people would have thought it was a Hohenzollern with the swords fallen off.

Just think of this case too: The Saxon St Henry Order-Knight, St Henry Order Medal-Gold, and St Henry Order Medal-Silver ALSO had NO device to tell any of the three awards apart on a ribbon bar. If we see TWO St Henry ribbons, this is what makes idnetifying which of the three awards they actually were so hard! All they needed were nice wreaths like so many other awards!

            Hi Majorpayne,

            Nice one!!!

The MVK had never an officially device. I know exactly ONE unofficially MVK device on a ribbon bar (picture below)

            Best regards

but normally they used simply an additional plain EK ribbon to denote the MVK. Here is a matching ribbon bar to Your buttonier:
