    imperial landwher DA question

    Hello,

Yesterday during a meeting a friend of mine showed me bar that i believe to be THE Prussian Landwehr DA 2 e klasse , is it possible to show me this award ?

The shown piece was a clasp with the following inscription :

F.W. III on the front, the reverse was maker marked : Sy & Wagner and in the right undercorner : 15 => it was certainly a silver bar in my opinion

This bar was on a Cornblue ribbon with white edge stripes on both sizes ?

Sorry no picture until now but any info is grately appreciated.

Stijn--That is actually the M1825 Service Decoration 2nd Class, for XV Years of Service, as awarded until 1913. The 1st Class for XXI Years had yellow edges, and the 3rd Class for IX Years had black edges.

The Prussian Reserve-Landwehr Decoration had a plain blue ribbon and a BLACK rectangle around the ribbon.

From 1913-20, ALL Prussian long service awards went to plain dark blue ribbons. Rick

        Hi David,

the 15 is a silver mark.

These old long service brooches were awarded from 1825 to 1913, thats why a lot of different variants are existing. But without a picture it is hard to tell.

        Best greetings

        Daniel

The pin and hook on top of back have fallen off (probably--the old solder dried up to powder a lot)...

I don't think I've ever seen a maker marked one, so I suspect this dates say 1890s-1913. They were awarded for 88 years, so I am sure there are many, many variations from unmarked makers.

I've brought a thread, "How They Wore Them" back up for you Stijn, showing a variety of the other brooches like yours. Note that the top two are for IX Years Service, but the one on the left has had its black edged ribbon replaced by an all blue one. Below those, with the embroidered center, is the LD2 you originally asked about.

The XV you show may have been mounted on a civilian medal bar the way the top photo on the other thread shows.
