    Germania Beer Stein

Hi. Not sure where to really post this. My first guess is military related but not sure. I know the maker was one of the largest stein makers at the turn of the century. Can anybody weigh in? Thanks for your help.

It's not military related. Germania is a patriotic figure, much akin to Lady Liberty. It is a quality stein. Villeroy & Bach is still in business today and during the imperial period made beautiful steins that are really works of art.

Since it is marked "Made in Germany", doesn't that mean it was made for export? Gary

Looks to be a good pre-WW1 patriotic steins by one of the greatest krug makers ever. (hair-line crack however, knocks a bit off the value)

As for the lady pictured on it, Wagner summed it up his opera

"it is not over until the fat lady sings"

              Chris

p.s. "Made in Germany" was put on a lot of items before WW1 & WW2. Intended for export, some were sold on the German domestic market depending on what the companies had in stock.
