Ernst August (III.) Herzog zu Braunschweig / Lüneburg, Prinz von Hannover!

I have tried to find some more informations about Herzog Ernst August zu Braunschweig. Especially I'm interested in his military career, the Regimenter where he served etc.

Who can help me with informations?

The may help yu a bit:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_...e_of_Brunswick

    http://www.deutsche-schutzgebiete.de...aunschweig.htm

    http://editthis.info/kaiserreich/Ern...f_Braunschweig

He began as Oberst of the "ziethensche Husaren" before WW1 started:

Der neue Herzog der zum Oberst der zietenschen Husaren befördert wurde nahm sein Herzogtum formell am 1. November 1913 in Besitz. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs brachte er es bis zum Generalmajor. Am 8. November 1918 wurde er wie alle deutschen Fürsten gezwungen auf sein Herzogtum verzichten. "

The information dealing with his service during WW1 are always very poor!

In 1914, Ernst August Herzog zu Braunschweig und Lüneburg was a Colonel in Braunschweigisches Hussaren Regiment Nr. 17 as the regimental chief (technically not the commander.) Another picture of him in that uniform and busby can be seen here about 3/4 of the way down this page:

      http://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/pelzmutze.htm

He was also the chief of the famous Braunschweigisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 92.

Ernst August was commissioned on 1 Nov. 1913, so he doesn't show up in the 1913 Rangliste.

Both posts in 1913 were filled by General der Kavallerie Johann Albrecht Ernst Constantin Friedrich Heinrich Herzog zu Mecklenburg, Regent des Herzogtums Braunschweig

        Thanks for the help!

Yes, I know the most photos show him in the uniform of the Braunschweiger Husaren.

Sothebys had an great auction at Schloss Marienburg six years ago. Lots of Ernst Augusts personal items were auctioned of. Honor goblets, his personal collection of helmet plates etc

One of the greatest auctions that decade and still visible on the web.

I read, that those items were sold for 25 million Euro. The auction was a chance for a lot of collectors.
